Sexual Health and Counselling Programme (SEP)
Our Work
The Story
Our Concept : Fostering Students Wellbeing Through Confidential Counseling Services (FOCCS)
The Fostering Students Wellbeing Through Confidential Counselling Services (FOCCS) is an integrated sexual health and counselling programme in the counties of Kitui, Samburu, Kajiado, Kilifi and Migori in Kenya.
The programme helps young girls acquire knowledge about sexual health and abuse, report abuse and access counselling while building their knowledge and urgency to negotiate their sexual rights and make independent decisions about their future.
A key innovation in this project is the introduction of Tumaini Boxes. Tumaini Boxes provide an anonymous and discreet platform for young girls who experience/d sexual violence to report these cases for counselling and access further follow up and counselling by Mrembo.
In addition to counselling and sexual education training, the project also provides needy students with educational assets such as books, pens, geometric sets and sanitary pads based on their needs to help improve their educational performance and reduce drop-out rates.
Tumaini is a Swahili word meaning hope. Tumaini boxes are strategically located in schools to allow students to discreetly provide written submissions regarding any forms of abuse or challenges they face in school, in their families or in the community.
Partnerships
Our active partnerships with individuals and organisations make it possible for us to carry out asset transfer activities in several counties across Kenya.
